The official opening for the forthcoming events of Patras Carnival is announced by the herald who rides the music float through each and every street of our city. He invites all residents and all visitors to magical joyful encounters and unexpected entertaining tours.
The Opening Ceremony is held on the first Saturday after the 17th January, when Christians celebrate St Antonios day. A variety of events take place thenincluding music concerts, dances, acrobatics, activities for both children and adults, funny games. The events start in the morning and reach their peakin the evening at King George’s I Square. There, the Mayor of our city declares the beginning of the official carnival period and welcomes the King on his float. The Treasure Hunt Game officially starts and everybody is ready for action. An open air party follows and the square turns into a huge dance floor where everybody has fun till the crack of dawn.
